Ranthambhore National Park
Safari Zone 7
Quick Identification
A rugged and hilly zone known for unexpected wildlife sightings, secluded valleys, rocky escarpments, and rich botanical diversity. Tigers, leopards, sloth bears, and striped hyenas may all be encountered here.
Where to Look
Enter through Chidi Kho Gate and explore Jamuda, Solar Plant Talai, Samshan Backside, Sutali Nala, and the surrounding valleys. Rocky slopes, caves, dense vegetation, and water sources are particularly productive for leopards and tigers.
Tigress Territory
This zone is primarily used by one tigress, although occasional movement from neighbouring areas may occur.
Best Time to See
Wildlife can be observed throughout the year. The monsoon and the months immediately afterwards are especially rewarding for vegetation, birds, butterflies, reptiles, and other smaller wildlife. Winter is also productive, particularly in the hilly areas, where tigers are more likely to be seen. During the cooler months, tigers often prefer sunny, open areas where they can bask and warm themselves.
Behaviour to Watch
Zone 7 is an important area for leopard breeding and cub-rearing. Tigresses from neighbouring Zones 6 and 8 also use its secluded valleys for denning and raising cubs. Watch rocky escarpments and caves for females with cubs, and look for young tiger cubs exploring under their mothers' supervision.
Interesting Fact
The narrow valleys of Zone 7 create cooler and more humid microhabitats, supporting an unusually rich variety of native trees, shrubs, climbers, medicinal plants, and seasonal herbs. After the monsoon, these habitats attract a remarkable diversity of insects, butterflies, reptiles, and birds.
